This course is an art studio course. While acquiring technical skill is an important aspect of you completing the course successfully, your grade is also dependent upon your creative and individual solution to the studio projects. Every effort is made for the studio\classroom to be a welcoming and stimulating place to work and learn, it is however, not a democratic environment. A teacher is hired as an expert in their field and therefore knows if a student's work is successful, or not. It is rarely a matter of taste.
To help clarify the grading process, here is a rough breakdown of how I and assess your performance.
Are you:
- Demonstrating a clear understanding of the skill(s) or concept(s) being taught?
- Able to competently execute the skill(s) being taught?
- Demonstrating the creative and individual application of the concept(s) being covered?
- Using the materials\media with sensitivity to utilize their unique characteristics?
- Participating regularly in class discussions & critiques?
- Demonstrating good work\studio habits?
- In class every day making a positive impact on your peers?
Obey all Safety procedures and instructions given in class. Be smart, no tossing or throwing of objects. Be aware of who is around you and what they are doing.
